Great Western Railway has named a train after HRH The Princess Royal in recognition of her support for more than 300 charities, organisations and military regiments in the UK and overseas.
Riders for Health co-founder Andrea Coleman and Lesotho country director Mahali Hlasa joined representatives from organisations most working in the areas of transport and international development at London Paddington on Thursday 2 May.
The Intercity Express Train 800024 was named in honour of Her Royal Highness who was joined at London Paddington by husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, a member of the GWR Advisory Board.
“Mahali and I were privileged to attend the launch of the new GWR train, The Princess Royal. Riders is among the charities most dear to the heart of Her Royal Highness because we are all focussed on sound and practical solutions to challenging, humanitarian issues. The Princess Royal has supported and endorsed the work of Riders for Health for many years and her support has been of immense value and pride”.
